Adult observation checklist

Parent, teacher or teaching assistant: tick mentally or on a printed report what the learner can now do independently:

Identify letters by shape and sound (not just by their position in an alphabet song).
Recognise short vowels ـَ / ـِ / ـُ and the long-vowel patterns.
Blend two or more sounds without guessing from the word picture.
Read a familiar word from Year 7 or Year 8 without transliteration.
Notice beginning, middle and final letter forms.
